María Medem started to self-publish her comics after studying Fine Arts. Her first full-length comic was published by Terry Bleu, a small Dutch publishing house. She has contributed to anthologies including NOW (Fantagraphics), Cold Cube (Cold Cube Press) and Clubhouse (Colorama) as well as different fanzines. In 2018 she published Cenit with Apa Apa, which won her the award for Best New Author at the 37th Comic Barcelona Fair and the ACDCómic Critics’ Best Breakthrough Author award. She has also published Echos with the French publisher Fidèle Editions. She has created illustrations for publications such as The New Yorker and The New York Times.
