Guillem Rubio Ramon

Researcher in Human Geography at the University of Edinburgh.

His research integrates political geographies and ecologies to study the mutual influence between animals and humans on their social, economic and political lives. He is currently participating in the project Remaking One Health − Indies, which analyses everyday interactions between people and stray dogs in India to move towards multispecies welfare paradigms. He has also coordinated projects such as Re-learning with Animals, funded by the British Academy, combining creative and participatory methods to imagine new ways of relating to animals in the urban spaces of the future. His doctoral thesis (University of Edinburgh, 2024) studied how certain animals – especially those involved in pig farming in Catalonia and salmon aquaculture in Scotland – can be understood as key actors in the national development projects of both countries.

We must rethink nature in cities to include non-human life forms and a more equitable distribution.
