Erik Davis

American scholar, writer and journalist who lives in San Francisco.

His published books include Nomad Codes: Adventures in Modern EsotericaThe Visionary State: A Journey through California’s Spiritual LandscapeLed Zeppelin IV and High Weirdness: Drugs, Esoterica, and Visionary Experience in the Seventies. He has also contributed to a number of magazines such as BookforumThe WireWired and The Village Voice, and his essays have been included in more than a dozen anthologies. With an undergraduate degree from Yale and a PhD from Rice University, he has spoken widely at international conferences on his areas of expertise, namely technoculture and the boundaries of religion. From 2018 to 2019 he hosted the podcast Expanding Mind in which he looks at topics related to magic, spirituality, psychology and technology. His book TecGnosis has now been translated into seven languages.
