Cristina Romera Castillo

Cristina Romera Castillo is an oceanographer who works at the Institut de Cièncias del Mar-CSIC in Barcelona.

With a degree in Chemistry and a PhD in Marine Sciences, her research has focused on the oceanic carbon cycle. She is currently studying the impact of microplastics on marine ecosystems and the carbon cycle and how bacteria could help to degrade them. She is the author of the popular science book AntropOcéano (Espasa, 2022). She has received several national and international awards for her work, including the L’Oreal-UNESCO Award For Women in Science 2019; the Raymond L. Lindeman Award 2020 from the Association for the Sciences of Limnology and Oceanography (ASLO); and the L’Oreal-UNESCO International Rising Talents 2020.
