Alec MacGillis

Specialising in politics and government policy, he writes for ProPublica, an independent, non-profit newsroom that produces investigative journalism.

He has worked in the editorial teams of The New RepublicThe Washington Post, and The Baltimore Sun. In 2016 he received the Robin Toner Prize for Excellence in Political Reporting and, in 2017, the George Polk for National Reporting, as well as the Elijah Parish Lovejoy Award. His work has appeared in The New YorkerThe AtlanticThe New York Times Magazine, and The Washington Post. He is author of The Cynic (2014), a biography of Senator Mitch McConnell, and Fulfillment: Winning and Losing in One-Click America which—published in Catalan as l’ombra d’Amazon: Una història del nostre futur by Edicions del Periscopi (2022), and also in Spanish by Península—gives an account of contemporary capitalism, while also constituting a devastating denunciation of the effects of Amazon on the lives of individuals and their communities.
